Ten Hill Place : Project Implementation

Surgeons' Hall The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), the oldest medical institution in the world, entered the hospitality industry in 2007 transforming a college residency into a cosmopolitan city hotel.

The hotel was a new direction for the RCSEd and GVA RGA was involved in the project since its conception. We completed the Initial Feasibility Study in 2002 and the Review in 2003, which concluded in a positive position for a new hotel. GVA RGA were commissioned to direct the pre and post-opening marketing of the hotel in March 2004 and directed the marketing activities for the hotel until 2008. Seeing the hotel rise out of the cobbles was a satisfying experience for GVA RGA and a challenge for the RCSEd who have had to embrace an entirely commercial operation.

The hotel is one component of the Surgeonsí Hall Complex which also includes conference and event facilities next to the original Georgian buildings. The College continues its education, training and examination functions for surgeons from all over the world in new premises on the site. Part of the complex is Scotlandís largest medical museum with images and artworks tracing surgeryís fascinating history from Roman times to the present including the breakthrough discoveries of antisepsis and anaesthesia and the curious development of false teeth.
